➤ DISPATCHER

Current opening and job description:
The Dispatcher is responsible and accountable for performing all work associated with the Dispatch office.  Working in conjunction with the EMS and Medi-Van staff the Dispatcher handles the day-to-day and ongoing scheduling and dispatching of all ambulances and medi-vans for the Gardner and Athol stations. The Dispatcher also has job responsibilities concurrent with scheduling of staff when vacancies in the time schedule occur and maintaining the smooth operations on the EMS and Medi-Van staff at all bases. Each Dispatcher must communicate with the Billing Department staff in the course of their shift when scheduling services for customers. The Dispatcher reports directly to the Dispatch Supervisor/designee.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Scheduling Medi-Van and Ambulance service for customers and patients when called.  In conjunction with the Billing Office assures that all insurance requirements are met.
  • Dispatching all vehicles in a timely manner, including emergent ambulances, utilizing appropriate protocols for ALS versus BLS level of care in accordance with the Medical Priority Dispatch System.
  • Following all appropriate policies, procedures, and protocols from the company in conjunction with regional, state, professional, and federal regulations.
  • Accurately establishing priorities and utilizing resources for dispatch in a timely manner when multiple requests are received.
  • Maintaining appropriate telephone answering and radio skills and use in accordance with all policies and procedures and protocols.
  • Providing complete and concise radio reports to all emergency responders and medi-van staff out on the road.
  • Communicating effectively service area directions to a responding crew or driver.
  • Completing the documentation requirements of the office in a consistent and accurate manner both manually and electronically.
  • Continuously monitoring radio frequencies and responds to all communications in a timely manner.
  • Communicating any outstanding problems, issues, or concerns to the oncoming shift and/or the Dispatch Supervisor.
  • Taking appropriate action in the event of vehicle or equipment failure or other personnel issue during the shift.
  • Taking appropriate action in the event of an MCI during the shift.
  • Assuring that all ambulance and medi-van paperwork is completed for each call and that the required billing information is attached for each station.
  • Assuring cleanliness of the dispatch office and equipment and paperwork availability necessary for the smooth running of the office during the shift.
  • Consistently documenting information required by other departments in conjunction with quality monitoring activities as assigned.
  • Participating in their yearly evaluation process and goal setting for the following year.
  • Participating in the investigations of complaints as it concerns themselves.
  • Attending scheduled meetings and educational offerings as per policy.
  • Participating in the orientation process of new dispatch, EMS, and medi-van staff as directed.
  • Participating in any on-site inspection process during their work shift when dispatch matters are involved.
  • Providing input into policies, procedures, and protocols that affect the dispatch function at Wood’s.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all internal and external regulations that affect the dispatch office.
  • Acting at all times in the best interests of high quality patient care, in the interests of the patient and in such a manner as to reflect credit on the company and themselves.
  • Performing other job related duties as assigned by senior management staff.  

Qualifications:
  • High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent.
  • Current certification in the Emergency Medical Priority Dispatch System or certification within the first 3 months of employment.  Must be certified before handling a shift alone.
  • Current certification in BCLS/CPR at the Health Care Provider or Professional Rescuer Level and Basic First Aid by any accrediting agency, e.g., American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or the National Safety Council.  This certification to include use of the SAED.  If the Dispatcher is a current EMT the First Aid requirement is waived.
  • High degree of personal integrity and responsibility.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively and interact in a constructive and professional manner with staff, public safety personnel, customers, patients and other members of the community.
  • Ability to work independently using sound judgment and common sense.
  • Must have basic computer skills and the ability to use Microsoft-based software programs.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the geographical service area preferred with a firm grasp of map reading procedures.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and tasks at the same time.  Ability to remain calm in a crisis.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.  Will be required to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, sit, push, pull, lift, and carry, both inside and outside during the course of the work shift.  Will be exposed to variances in weather.  In accordance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1993, reasonable accommodations will be made as needed to the duties and/or physical demands of this position description.

➤ EMT | EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - PARAMEDIC

Full-time and part-time – weekdays and weekends.
Shifts run: 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am & 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am
Shifts available in 8 hour increments - combination of shifts also available
Shifts at Gardner station as well as Athol station

 

General Function:
Responds to select medical and traumatic emergencies and provides emergency medical care at the scene, in route to the hospital, and in the emergency department. Provides emergency medical care as appropriate to the practice of the registered paramedic, performing indicated Advanced Life Support procedures under the direction and supervision of the medical direction physician, by standing orders or by radio or telephone voice communication. Performs other duties as directed by Wood’s management, consistent with the provision of the highest quality of patient/customer care.

Position Requires:

  • Current registry as a Registered EMT Paramedic by Massachusetts Department of Public Health – OEMS and National Registry of EMT Paramedics
  • Current certification in CPR-Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
  • Current certification as Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider by the American Heart Association
  • Current Motor Vehicle Operations License
  • Knowledge of the geographic service area
  • Minimum of 1 year full-time experience as a provider of pre-hospital emergency medical care within the last 3 years
  • A level of skill and ability as a registered paramedic consistent with the provision of high quality care within the operations of Wood’s Ambulance, Inc. Policy & Procedures, and with approval to practice by Region II
  • Knowledge, skills, responsibilities and other requirements and expectations to be addressed upon further inquiry and interview process.

➤ EMT | EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - BASIC

Current opening and job descriptions:
Responsibility to complete all emergent and non-emergent transports as directed by dispatch and management. Responsible to adhere to the Universal Precautions when dealing with all patients and with his/her personal safety of his/her partner and bystanders. Assist with care of patients and other tasks in emergency department as necessary and appropriate when requested.


Full-time and part-time – weekdays and weekends
Shifts run: 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am & 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am
Shifts available in 8 hour increments - combination of shifts also available to create 16, and 24 hour shifts

Position Requires:

  • Valid Motor Vehicle Drivers License
  • Current BLS license in accordance with protocols and procedures by OEMS in the Commonwealth of MA
